Greg SearleGreg Searle, Olympian extraordinaire!

As Patron of the Senior British Rowing Championships it is really good to see how well the Championships are going from strength to strength and have become an essential part of the GB rowing calendar.

Our international oarsmen will be representing their clubs at these national championships which can only be good for our sport, providing healthy competition and a good way to identify and develop new talent from within the club system. It puts the top rowers back at the heart of our sport where they can compete and be role models for the next generation of the GB squad.

Rowing is one of the few sports where the best in the country race can hang out alongside developing athletes, which has to be good for the sport that we all love. Having a major regatta in October has proved ideal for early selection and provided a pointer for those with that essential regatta sense in a way that 5k time trails do not.

With the Senior Championships in their fourth year of the new format they form a major focus for GB rowing, giving competitors, coaches and spectators a top event to kick-start the season.

I wish everyone a good row and a most enjoyable weekend.
